Dolphins’s Chad Johnson arrested for domestic violence
Police say Dolphins receiver Chad Johnson has been arrested on a domestic violence charge, accused of head-butting his newlywed wife during an argument in front of their home in Davie, Fla.
Davie police Capt. Dale Engle says Johnson and his wife were at dinner Saturday night and she confronted him about a receipt she had found for a box of condoms. His wife (Evelyn Lozada) is on the reality show – “Basketball Wives,” and the couple married last month.
Engle says when they arrived at their driveway, Lozada says Johnson head-butted her. She was treated at a hospital for a forehead cut.
Engle says Johnson is in the Broward County Jail where he will remain until he can appear before a judge, which Engle says might not be until Monday.

When they arrived in their driveway in Davie, the 34-year-old Johnson head-butted Lozada, she told police. Lozada, who is on the reality show, “Basketball Wives,” was treated at a hospital for a cut to her forehead, Engle said.
Johnson (who changed his last name back to Johnson from Ochocinco after his July 4 wedding to Lozada) was being held Saturday night in Broward County Jail where he will remain until he can appear before a judge, which Engle says might not be until Monday. He is charged with simple battery, domestic violence, which is a misdemeanor.
Johnson’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, declined to comment.
“We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering all of the relevant information” – the Dolphins said in a statement.
Johnson remained in jail as of late Saturday night and won’t be eligible for release until a bail hearing is set, which could be as late as Monday.
This is the first time Johnson has been arrested during his 12-year NFL career. But according to the paper, he was arrested in college for a domestic dispute.
Johnson signed with Dolphins this offseason after spending last season with the New England Patriots.
The 34-year-old Johnson played his first 10 seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals and has 766 career catches for 11.059 yards and 67 touchdowns.
