Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Bobbi Kristina Brown

In her first interview since Whitney Houston’s death, daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown said she’s “doing as good as I possibly can” and recalled the tender last moments she shared with her superstar mother before her sudden death last month.
“She’s always with me” – said the 19-year-old, Houston’s only child and sole heir. “Her spirit is strong, it’s a strong spirit. I feel her pass through me all the time.”
Brown made the comments in an interview with Oprah Winfrey on Winfrey’s network, OWN, that also featured Pat Houston – the singer’s manager and sister-in-law, and Gary Houston – the brother of Whitney Houston.
Brown credited her family and God for helping her cope since her mother’s death on Feb. 11 at the age of 48.
“It comes in waves. One moment I can be happy and laughing, but then it comes over me. It’s my mom” – she said.
Houston, who had struggled with drugs and alcohol in the past but according to family had been apparently clean, was found in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., on the eve of the Grammys. She was to attend a pre-Grammy party the night she died.
Brown said the night before her mother’s death, she asked Houston to spend the night with her.
“I slept in her arms all day, all night long” – said Brown, whose father is singer Bobby Brown.
Pat Houston said in the days before Houston died, the singer had not been abusing drugs, despite reports that she had been acting erratically. She said an event she attended two days before her death where Houston looked disheveled was particularly difficult because the legendary performer got into a verbal spat with a former contestant on the “X Factor.” Pat Houston would not name the woman, but Stacy Francis has said that she and Whitney Houston had words that night.
According to Pat Houston, Francis “made herself present everywhere we were,” unnerving Houston and leading to an argument.

Oprah Winfrey’s OWN cable channel might still be underperforming, but the legendary talk show host showed in an interview with members of Whitney Houston’s family Sunday night that she can still bring it like few others on television.
While Winfrey talked to the late pop singer’s brother, Gary Houston, and his wife, Patricia, who was Houston’s manager and confidant, the interviewee everyone tuned into see Sunday was Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.
Winfrey didn’t waste any time getting to Bobbi Kristina, and once she wrapped the teenager in her arms, the feelings and revelations started to flow.
The interview was done in the home of Houston’s brother, which is located in Atlanta. Winfrey was greeted warmly at the door by Patricia Houston, but after a few niceties about the home, the talk show host was asking if Bobbi Kristina was there.
Winfrey was not about to keep her prime-time audience waiting – this is a woman who understands her audience.
Patricia explained that while Bobbi Kristina lived in the home she had shared with her mother, the 19-year-old was also spending a lot of time in her home as well – where she and Gary could provide support.
Winfrey got right to it with Bobbi Kristina asking her how she was holding up.
“I’m “doing okay” – Bobbi Kristina said – “I’m doing as good as I possibly can”.
The teenager was nervous and kept pushing strands of hair out of her eyes, but the nervousness seemed more a matter of being in Winfrey’s presence rather than the cameras. Winfrey seemed to understand, and closed the space between them by taking Bobbi Kristina in her arms.
The moment that made the interview such a success came within the first 10 minutes when Winfrey asked if Bobbi Kristina had a visitation” from her late mother. The talk show host added that some people think “we’re crazy” for believing in “visitations,” wisely creating a space for Bobbi Kristina to confide intimate details without fear of being judged or considered strange.
“I can hear her voice, you know, and spirit talking to me, telling me: ‘Keep moving baby. I’m right here. I got you.’ She’s always with me” – the teenager said.
“Yeah, ‘I got you,’ that’s what she would say” – Winfrey added, like a member of the chorus seconding and encouraging the lead singer to give more.
“I feel her pass through me all the time” – Bobbi Kristina said. “The lights turn on and off, and I go, ‘Mom, what’re you doing?’ I can still laugh with her. I can sit there and I can still talk with her.”

She has seen the negative effects fame can bring but Bobbi Kristina Brown has revealed that she is set for a career in acting and singing – just like her mother Whitney Houston.
In a revealing and touching interview with Oprah Winfrey which aired tonight, the 19-year-old spoke about her mother’s death for the first time.
Bobbi told Oprah that she wants to carry on her mother’s legacy and how she hears her mother’s spirit all the time encouraging her.
She said: “I still have a voice – yeah we are going to do the singing thing, we are going to do the singing and the acting.”
And asked if she felt a burden because of her mother’s extreme talent and success she replied: “It’s a lot of pressure but she prepared me for it.”
The teenager also told Oprah of her final day and night with her mother, before she passed away on Feb. 11, 2012.
She explained: “The very last day, it was so early in the morning I went to go and get her I was like ‘Will you come and lay down with me.’
Bobbi Kristina added: “She was rubbing my head and I slept in her arms all day and all night long.”
The daughter of Whitney and husband Bobby Brown was composed throughout the short interview, which took place at her aunt’s house in Atlanta.
While at times she sometimes repeated Oprah’s words back to her – which gave a sense the former talk show host was leading the interview to her own rhythm – Bobbi did articulate herself clearly.
Oprah has been criticised for conducting the interview less than a month after Whitney passed away but during the interview she steered clear of subjects which might cause too much distress and didn’t bring up the subject of drugs, how Whitney died or her father.
Bobbi Kristina explained how she has surprised herself in coming to terms with her mother’s death.
She admitted that months ago if someone had told her this would happen she said: “I would have said I wouldn’t have been able to do it.”
But Bobbi Kristina said that she feels her mother is with her and she often speaks to her.
She explained: “I can hear her voice in spirit talking to me ‘I’m right here I’ve got you’ I can always feel her with me.”
Bobbi Kristina also said that she can feel her mother’s spirit passing through her body.
She said: “She passes through me all the time.”
