Anthony Weiner and twitter photo
Rep. Anthony Weiner struggled to explain how a picture of somebody’s bulging underwear briefly appeared on his Twitter account, claiming in a back-to-back string of interviews that he was clearly hacked – but hinting the photograph could have been an image of him.
“I have photographs. I don’t know what photographs are out there in the world of me” – he said in one cable news interview, asked whether he’d ever snapped a photo like that of himself.
In another interview, Weiner acknowledged “it could be” the case that one of his private photos spilled onto the Internet. Or, he said, one could have been manipulated or pulled in from ‘somewhere else.’
Talking briefly to reporters outside his office Thursday morning, the congressman made clear he was not interested in sitting down for more questions.
“I made it very clear I did not send that picture, that my Twitter account had been hacked, and the prank apparently has been successful. But after hours, almost 11 hours of answering questions … today, I’m going to have to get back to work” – Weiner said.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor called Thursday morning for colleague Anthony Weiner to ‘come clean’ and give a clear explanation of how a photo of a man’s crotch ended up being sent to a young woman in Seattle through his Twitter account.
“There’s a lot of explaining going on without a lot of clarity” – said Cantor, a Virginia Republican, in response to a question on ‘Fox and Friends.’
While other House colleagues of Weiner have resisted saying whether they think Weiner took or sent the photo, Cantor’s comments suggested that Weiner was, somehow, involved.
“The American people are right in saying that they don’t have tolerance for this repeated kind of activity going on surrounding their elected leaders” – Cantor said.
“Think about his wife, I mean, I’m really saddened for his wife” – Cantor added, referring to Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin, who Weiner married last year.
A few hours earlier, Weiner continued his string of less-than-absolute denials in a Wednesday night appearance on ‘The Rachel Maddow Show,’ where he offered jokes but no further explanation of whether a photograph of an underwear-clad man’s groin was of him.
Mitt Romney, the former Governor of Massachusetts, is set to announce his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination at 12:30 EDT today from a Livestream event in New Hampshire. Romney, who failed to win the nomination in 2008, is considered a GOP front runner in the 2012 presidential race even though many Republicans are still considering whether or not to run.
However, Romney’s announcement today may be overshadowed by the likes of Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) and Sarah Palin. Weiner is in the news because of a twitter scandal and Palin is currently traveling around the East Coast on her ‘One Nation’ bus tour.
While Weiner’s scandal is making headlines because no one is sure whether the picture is that of Weiner himself or someone else, Palin’s tour is causing seasoned pundits to scratch their heads as they try to figure out whether the ‘One Nation’ tour is another publicity stunt or an indication that Palin will run for the Republican presidential nomination.
Weiner, whose Twitter account was allegedly hacked, told MSNBC’s Luke Russert that he ‘can’t say with certitude’ that the picture isn’t of him. The alleged hacking of Weiner’s Twitter feed caused a photo of man in his underpants to be sent to Gennette Nicole Cordova of Seattle, Washington.
