Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo’s wedding
After dating for five years, star celebs Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo got married on a private island. They kept helicopters and planes away by pulling a fireworks permit, surprising the paparazzi who hoped to fly in with telephoto lens cameras to spy on the celebrity couple on their special day.
The footage of the celebs private wedding ceremony aired on Saturday, July 30th to the delight of pop music fans familiar with the former teen idol. Lachey used to be married to actress and singer Jessica Simpson and the two were wed for a short time. They actually allowed cameras to film their first year of marriage for a reality television series called ‘Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.’ The publicity stunt proved to be a romance killer and they divorced back in 2006 shortly after the show ended.
Vanessa Minnillo was a former Miss Teen USA who was also a music business insider. As a host on MTV, the pretty and smart brunette stood in sharp contrast to the ditzy blonde bombshell Jessica Simpson. She and Nick Lachey dated as a live-in celebrity couple for years, and the former boy band star from ’98 Degrees’ seems to be exceptionally happy with his new bride.
Was Jessica happy to hear Nick was marrying Vanessa Minnillo? Suffice it to say she countered with an engagement announcement of her own that came out shortly after Nick made his announcement.
To keep their wedding private, they had to go to extremes. There was Hollywood fanfare of the modest type as the two got married on a private island owned by billionaire Richard Branson with TLC cameras rolling for the exclusive. At the time, only 35 guests were present. Their wedding planner also handled the exclusive wedding of Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez as well as A-List reality TV star Khloe Kardashian – who wed NBA player Lamar Odom.

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo – the happy couple who were married July 15 – have returned home following their ten days honeymoon on St. Barts Island. The wedding of Lachey and Minnillo on Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island garnered much attention because of the picture-perfect destination and the love story between the couple.
According to Jen Garcia of the People magazine, the wedding was a happier ever since the couple has a true and great love story.
“We see celebrity weddings all the time but this one was a happily ever after, a really great love story” – Jen Garcia said.
Nick Lachey (37) said that his first sight of Minnillo, a former Miss Teen USA and MTV host, in her wedding dress was something he will not forget because it literally took his breath away.
“It literally took my breath away” – he told People magazine. “It’s a moment you fantasize about, and I was certainly not disappointed.
Besides, an intimate crowd drew together on the stunning island to watch the wedding proceedings of the stunning and happy couple.
Nick Lachey rose to fame from his childhood as the “98 Degrees”’ front-man in addition to his widely celebrated first wedding to Jessica Simpson in 2002. His wedding to Simpson also played out in the ‘Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.’ Lachey and Simpson split in 2006.
At first, it appears like a cute idea – two beautiful celebrities come together to plan the wedding of their dreams. From the invitations, dresses, food and gifts, viewers can see every detail and share the couple’s excitement and love for the big day.
However, celebrity couples who have decided to film their wedding for cameras and networks haven’t always had great success. Sure the paycheck, discounted wedding fees and exposure is nice in the beginning. Once the wedding is over, however, the spotlight and chance for trouble doesn’t necessarily fade away.
As Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo’s wedding airs this Saturday on TLC, the question is asked – is it really the smartest thing to get married on TV?
Some couples have done it with no problems. Look at Trista and Ryan Sutter from ‘The Bachelorette.’ ABC paid them $1 million to broadcast their wedding in 2003 on ABC. They remain married today with two kids. Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom planned their wedding in nine days and E! saw record ratings for the two hour wedding special. In fact, the couple now allow cameras into their married lives with the series, ‘Khloe and Lamar.’
Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, La La Vazquez and Carmelo Anthony and ‘Real Housewives’ stars Lauri and George Peterson have all said ‘I do’ in front of cameras and remain happily married as well.
Some couples though haven’t been as fortunate. Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro’s MTV series, ‘Til Death Do Us Part,’ didn’t help their marriage that ended after two and a half years. Adrianne Curry and Christopher Knight separated after their VH1 series, ‘My Fair Brady,’ aired.
