Fashion designer Bijan Pakzad dies
Bijan Pakzad – an Iranian American designer of jewelry – fragrances and luxury menswear who ran a Beverly Hills boutique and was renowned as clothier to some of the world’s most powerful men, died Saturday morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles – his family said.
Pakzad was 67 – his family said.
He suffered a stroke while working Thursday and was rushed to the hospital but never recovered – said his son (Nicolas Bijan Pakzad, 19). He said his father once named a fragrance DNA in honor of his three children, Daniela, Nicolas and Alexandra.
“He’s dressed over 40,000 clients” – Nicolas Pakzad said, including Presidents Carter, George H.W. Bush, Clinton, George W. Bush and Obama. “We have a picture of all five living presidents wearing his suits.” He said his father recently traveled to Washington, D.C., for an event honoring George H.W. Bush, whom he counted as a friend.
Menswear and fragrance designer Bijan Pakzad died Saturday after suffering a stroke Thursday night. He was 67.
An outgoing message at his Beverly Hills boutique said: “Today, Saturday April 16, 2011, at 8:05 a.m., our dear Dr. Bijan Pakzad passed away peacefully with his family members at his side.”
No further details were given.
Two-time Beverly Hills mayor Jimmy Delshad later wrote on his Facebook page: “It is with great grief and sadness that I announce the passing of my dear friend Bijan Pakzad. He was an exceptional person and he will be greatly missed.”
Bijan, as he was known, was a go-to fashion designer in the celebrity world. He dressed many of the world’s most powerful figures, including President Obama, the Queen of England, Bill Clinton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise and Bill Gates.
Born in Tehran, Iran, he studied in Switzerland and Italy before immigrating to the United States, where he opened Bijan, a boutique on the prestigious Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, California. that has since become known as the most expensive store in the world.

Los Angeles. Iranian-American fashion designer Bijan Pakzad, who made clothes for countless celebrities from the worlds of entertainment and politics, has died at the age of 67, his company announced.
“Today, Saturday April 16th 2011, at 8:05 am, our dear Dr. Bijan Pakzad passed away peacefully with his family members at his side” – said a recorded audio statement prepared by the luxury clothing store Bijan ran in Beverly Hills.
No cause of death was given. But celebrity website TMZ reported that Bijan had suffered a stroke Thursday night and was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Bijan, as he was generally known, was a legend in the fashion and perfume business and designed clothes for movie stars and world leaders.
His clients included presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, actors Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Cruise and Anthony Hopkins, as well as fellow fashion designers Giorgio Armani, Tom Ford and Oscar de la Renta.
His Rodeo Drive boutique is known as the most expensive store in the world.
