Tracy Morgan and Kevin Rogers
Nashville. A man who was in the audience at a recent Tracy Morgan show in Nashville said that the well-known comedian and “30 Rock” actor went beserk when talking about how he’d treat a gay son: “I’d kill him.”
Audience member Kevin Rogers, who is gay, wrote about the June 3 show on Facebook:
“I’ve been a big fan of his since his days at SNL. The show was your typical hysterical dick, cum and pussy humor… I have to say it was hilarious and well worth at least 40% of the $86 we spent per ticket to see him. I figured at some point the gay jokes would fly and I’m well prepared for a good ribbing of straight gay humor” – Rogers wrote.
However, Rogers said that this didn’t feel like humor; Morgan’s whole demeanor changed when he started in on the gay jokes and that he seemed “truly filled with hate against us.”
“He said if his son that was gay he better come home and talk to him like a man and not [he mimicked a gay, high pitched voice] or he would pull out a knife and stab that little N (one word I refuse to use) to death” – Rogers wrote. “Tracy then said he didn’t fucking care if he pissed off some gays, because if they can take a fucking dick up their ass… they can take a fucking joke.”
Rogers said that about a dozen people walked out.
Truth Wins Out Social Media Director Evan Hurst said that if these allegations are true, Morgan went too far.
“Comedians have long pushed the envelope in tackling controversial subjects” – he said. “Indeed, it’s part of their job description, and good comedians are able to do this and keep everybody laughing at the same time. However, abject hatred directed at vulnerable kids is not comedy, by anyone’s definition. If these reports are true, we expect a full explanation and apology.”
Tracy Morgan should stick to what he does best, which is letting someone write his jokes, while he play the asinine character that he so realistically portrays on 30 Rock.
Of course, with anything involving Morgan, he wouldn’t allow it to be that easy. During a recent comedy show in Nashville, Tennessee – you can guess where this is going, the comedian decided to let his audience know exactly how he felt about homosexuals and President Barack Obama’s ‘allegiance’ to them.
During his tirade, Morgan mocked the President for accepting something as perverted as homosexuality, that being ‘born this way’ is a joke and that he would even stand his own son, if he ever came out to him.
What I don’t understand is why should we take the musings of a second rate sidekick on a hit TV show’s hateful rhetoric is funny? When did it become ‘funny’ to denigrate a whole community of people and then throwing God in it to make yourself feel vindicated? Not only that but when will it ever be funny to joke about murdering your child, if he were ever to turn out gay.
Also, what does Obama having a wife and two daughters have anything to do with his stance on gay rights? The last I checked LGBT equality has not been utilized in every state. Using the President’s families as means to call him ‘soft’ is shallow and reminiscent of the issues that some black men try to use when opposing the LGBT community. In other words, all Morgan was able to do is show that homophobia doesn’t cease to exist even if you are quasi-famous.
Kevin Farrell (Co-Founder, Unicorn Booty):
Oh HELL no. It’s worth noting that Morgan works under Tina Fey, an outspoken advocate for the LGBT community. She has been pressed for a comment on Morgan’s hateful meltdown, but has yet to respond.
Morgan’s publicist, Nicole Charbot, issued this statement to Instinct: ‘There is no comment. Thank you.’
Thank us? Try begging our forgiveness. We’re guessing this is just the beginning of this story.
It’s worth noting that Morgan’s homophobic meltdown just happened to be in Tennessee, the current Homophobic Cup holder of our glorious nation. In recent weeks, Tennessee has stripped LGBT employment discrimination protections from the law, and of course passed the Don’t Say Gay Bill through the senate. Not that they needed they help, but Morgan’s tirade puts them miles ahead in the race for America’s most anti-gay state.
Lovely.
UPDATE:
Tracy Morgan’s publicist, Nicole Chabot sent us a chilly ‘There is no comment, thank you for your inquiry.’ after we contacted her voicing our concern for the safety or Morgan’s child. Our letter, below:
Ms. Chabot,
I’m writing in regards to Mr. Morgan’s reported homophobic meltdown while on stage in Nashville. While Mr. Morgan reportedly said a vast number of hateful anti-gay things, I’m by far the most troubled about his threat to stab his own son to death.
I know you commented earlier that there would be no comment on this subject, but you must understand by now that this situation isn’t going to swept under the rug. I represent Unicorn Booty, the most-followed gay blog in the world, and would appreciate it greatly if you would elaborate further beyond your initial ‘no comment.’
