Kate Gosselin about TLC cancels Kate Plus 8
It looks like mother of eight Kate Gosselin, 36, may soon be seeing a sudden drop in her finances.
U.S. network TLC today announced that it has wielded the axe on the reality show which follows the up and downs of her life with her sextuplet and twin brood.
The network said in a statement: “TLC has decided not to renew another season of Kate Plus 8.
“By the end of this season Kate Plus 8 will have hit the 150 episode mark (including Jon & Kate Plus 8), an exceptional milestone.”
But the network is not completely washing its hands of the Gosselins. TLC said it hopes to “check in with Kate and the family periodically with specials in the future.”
Kate, who changed from downtrodden housewife into glamorous reality star over the show’s run, tweeted to her 30,000 followers: “TLC cancelled it. I’m sorry. We’ve had a great run! Six years of whirlwind fun-filled adventures.
“Thanks to TLC and our many, many supportive and diehard fans! While it is very sad for me and the kids (there were many tears at the breakfast table this morning!), we are we are looking forward with great anticipation to our bright future!”
The reality show star was keen to see the positive side to what must be disappointing news.
She said: “I am excited to consider the many more invigorating opportunities that may come my way.”
Kate Gosselin.
It seems that Kate Gosselin’s claim to fame – her family – may be all be she has left after this season of her show ends. Her show Kate Plus 8 has been cancelled due to bad ratings. But it may not be the last time the reality star does reality TV.
TLC has promised us more shows in the form of ‘specials,’ but the powers that be of reality TV have other ideas for the mom of eight who started as the married star of Jon and Kate Plus 8 then became Kate Plus 8 after a very messy, public divorce that spilled both Jon and Kate’s dirty laundry all over the tabloids.
As a single mom, Gosselin’s show just did not pull in the ratings, but her desire to be famous and remain in the spotlight has never wavered. She has done Dancing With the Stars, had plastic surgery and aired all of her personal business publicly. So, where is there left for her to go? After the announcement, she tweeted:
“can’t wait2have the chance2challenge myself again w future endeavors!… And maybe even some dating??!!”
So who would she date? Produce Mike Fleiss of Bachelor fame was asked if he would consider Gosselin and he said – “Kate Gosselin? Sounds like a perfect fit for Bachelor Pad.”
Kate Gosselin’s reality television series is history. Her show “Kate Plus Eight,” was canceled by TLC in a terse announcement today – August 15, and it’s not hard to understand why. Her success became her undoing.
When her reality show, with then husband Jon Gosselin, first went on the air in 2007, they were a young couple struggling to raise a eight children (including miracle sextuplets).
They were middle-class, hard-working and viewers could easily relate to the trials and tribulations they faced as they tried to manage their miracle family.
After two seasons on the Discovery Health Channel, the show moved to TLC, where it grew in popularity.
But as the episodes progressed, it became evident that friction was building between Jon and Kate.
Jon seemed plodding and indifferent; Kate seemed hard edged and ambitious. She began to regularly berate and belittle him in front of the kids, a no-no for most parents.
She went through a remarkable transformation. Tabloids reported that it included a tummy tuck, breast enhancement and botox. On ABC’s “The View” – she denied both surgeries.
She also dyed her hair blonde and got a trendy asymmetrical style at a high-end Manhattan salon.
Meanwhile, she continued to take the kids to a cut-rate Supercuts.
She also began wearing mini-skirts and stiletto heels. Before long, she looked more like a Beverly Hills socialite than a suburban Pennsylvania mom.
Viewers continued to watch, but for a different reason. They were transfixed by the slo-motion implosion of their marriage.
On June 22, 2009 (in an extended one-hour episode) Jon and Kate announced that they were separating.
