Kirk Cameron talk about homosexuality
Kirk Cameron (a former teen idol who once starred in the sitcom “Growing Pains” and is now a born-again Christian) is under fire after calling homosexuality “detrimental and destructive.”
Kirk Cameron is interviewed by CNN’s Piers Morgan and makes some radical comments about his stance on homosexuality in this segment which aired Friday (March 2) on the news channel.
“[Homosexuality is] unnatural… I think that it’s detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization” – the 41-year-old actor-evangelist said.
“Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve” – Cameron said to Piers. “One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either. So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don’t.”

On the topic of homosexuality, the conservative actor said: “I think that it’s – it’s – it’s unnatural. I think that it’s – it’s detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”
Cameron, who played Mike Seaver on the hit 1980s comedy series “Growing Pains,” has often preached the gospel on the streets, on television and online. Piers Morgan asked Cameron what he would say to one of his sons if they told him that they were gay.
“I’d sit down and have a heart to heart with them, just like you would with one of your kids” – Cameron said. “I wouldn’t say, ‘that’s great son, as long as you’re happy,’ I would say there are all sorts of issues that we need to wrestle through in our life and just because you feel one way doesn’t mean that we should act on everything we feel.”
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) fired back at Cameron on Saturday.
“In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character” – Herndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD said in a statement on the organization’s website. “Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans, particularly people of faith who believe that their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be loved and accepted based on their character and not condemned because of their sexual orientation.”
The actor made headlines in May 2011 after criticizing British physicist Stephen Hawking, a 69-year-old British physicist, is almost completely paralyzed by motor neuron disease and is only able to speak through a computer-generated voice synthesizer.
When asked about the afterlife, Hawking said: “I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark.”
Cameron responded on Facebook writing, “To say anything negative about Stephen Hawking is like bullying a blind man. He has an unfair disadvantage, and that gives him a free pass on some of his absurd ideas… Why should anyone believe Mr. Hawking’s writings if he cannot provide evidence for his unscientific belief that out of nothing, everything came?”

Did anyone really expect less from him?
Outspoken Born Again Christian Kirk Cameron was interviewed last night on Piers Morgan Tonight. And, when asked about his stance on gay marriage and homosexuality, wasted no time referring to it as unnatural, detrimental, and “ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”

So sad. It’s clear that despite his attempt to soften his opinions with some serious politician-esque dodging of questions. All he’s taken from his religion is outdated bigotry and hatred for those who are different.
We’d say that those qualities are far more “destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization” than homosexuality could ever be, wouldn’t you, Kirk?
