‘N Sync will reunite at MTV VMAs with Justin Timberlake
The list of unanswered questions for Sunday’s MTV VMAs is growing. Will Lady Gaga’s Jeff Koons’ references be lost amid the nudity? How many dancers can Miley Cryus get to twerk at once? How will Kanye West attempt to offend someone?
Here’s one to add to the list: Will Justin Timberlake reunite with the boy band that made him famous – ‘NSync?
Reports out of New York – namely the New York Post – are indicating that Timberlake will indeed appear with his former bandmates. If true, the sudden reunion wouldn’t be entirely out of place at the VMAs, as Timberlake is set to receive the retrospective Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
Will there be an ‘N Sync reunion at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards? That was the rumor that got the Internet abuzz on Tuesday.
In his SiriusXM show Dirty Pop With Lance Bass, the former ‘N Syncer addressed the speculation – without actually confirming or denying that the reunion will take place.
When guest Lea Black (Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Miami) declared that fans should “start demanding a reunion,” Bass replied – “That would be an amazing time.”
MTV has neither confirmed nor denied the reports. Timberlake’s rep hasn’t responded to The Hollywood Reporter’s request for comment.
The 2013 VMAs are set to take place Sunday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
“Justin Timberlake is getting the Michael Jackson Vanguard Award this Sunday at the awards, so of course people are automatically going to think we’re going to be there performing, but this is exactly how it happened and I knew these rumors were going to fly” – he said.
There was at least one group of people disappointed by Justin Timberlake’s remarkably successful return to music this year – Those hoping for an NSYNC reunion.
Enter the power of MTV. It was already announced that Timberlake would be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at this Sunday’s ceremony, but now – according to reports from sources within MTV, Timberlake will be joined by his old NSYNC compadres Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, and JC Chasez for a performance.
Despite the ongoing showdown between Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, this NSYNC news has now become one of the biggest stories of this weekend’s show. It seemed like an NSYNC reunion was an impossibility, mostly because Timberlake was doing just fine on his own, thank you very much. It’s doubtful that this will lead to any extended work together (Timberlake has two movies to promote, plus an arena tour supporting the entirety of The 20/20 Experience), but it’ll provide some satisfying closure in the great boy-band comeback of 2013 that has included Backstreet Boys, New Kids on the Block, and 98 Degrees.
