Broncos TE Julius Thomas
Julius Thomas announced his presence to the NFL world (and to fantasy football owners everywhere) with a pair of touchdown catches against Baltimore. Thomas, who had all of one catch for five yards prior to Thursday night, hauled in four passes for 97 yards in the first half alone.
His first touchdown came on a nice double move, as Peyton Manning pump-faked and then dropped one in over the defense to a wide-open Thomas. On the second Thomas victimized rookie Ravens safety Michael Huff and his partner in the secondary, James Ihedigbo.
“They’re just singling that guy” – Broncos coach John Fox said of Thomas. “They’re covering all our other targets, so we’re going to continue to go to him as long as they do that.”
Admit it – before Thursday night you couldn’t pick Broncos tight end Julius Thomas out of a lineup. That probably has something to do with the fact that Thomas had appeared in just four games the last two seasons and had registered a whopping one career reception.
Oh, and before his coming out party against the Ravens in the 2013 opener that included four catches for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns before halftime – he was best known for playing basketball at Portland St. with quite possibly the tightest wig we’ve seen in some time.
Denver Broncos starting tight end Julius Thomas was arrested last week for failure to appear in court for a traffic citation – according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.
Earlier in that day, shortly after 6:30 a.m., Thomas was stopped by a deputy for speeding in the 8100 block of South Potomac Street – Thompson said. As part of that process, the deputy checked for any outstanding warrants and saw that Thomas had one for failure to appear in court for a traffic ticket – Thompson said.
The ticket was from January 25. Thomas was booked into jail on $500 bail, Thompson said, and released the same day.
The Broncos released a statement on the issue (via KUSA-TV): “We were notified of the issue involving Julius Thomas when it occurred on August 28. It was addressed internally and is being resolved.”
Thomas led the Broncos this preseason in catches and receiving yards, earning his place atop the team’s depth chart. His legal issues shouldn’t impact his role with the Broncos on Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens.
