Wiz Khalifa arrested on marijuana charges
Pittsburgh rapper Wiz Khalifa was arrested in North Carolina Monday night for multiple marijuana violations, including trafficking marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a place for the sale of marijuana.
The rapper (whose real name is Cameron Thomaz) performed Monday night at East Carolina University in Greenville and was arrested by campus officers after the show. He was placed in Pitt County Detention Center early Tuesday morning and later released on bond.
The video footage purportedly of the arrest was posted on YouTube, but the person being arrested is seen from a distance.
Marijuana features heavily in Khalifa’s rhymes. Monday night’s performance was part of his ‘Waken Baken Tour 2010,’ and he has boasted in the past about smoking 10.000$ worth of weed per month and recently launched his own line of rolling papers.
Wiz Khalifa has been arrested for alleged possession of marijuana – although you probably can take out the ‘alleged,’ as the rapper has admitted to a pot habit that costs 10.000$ per month. Now Wiz Khalifa also known as Wix is in jail. And students at East Carolina University, where he was arrested, have started a Free Wiz campaign.
His pot habit is a bit of a surprise considering his background – he comes from a straight-laced military family.
His parents divorced when he was 3. Both his mom and dad served in the military. That meant he moved around a lot, including living in German, England, Japan and ultimately Pittsburgh, where he attended high school. The 23-year-old’s real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, and his stage name is a mash-up of the Arabic word for successor and the abbreviation for ‘wisdom.’
The ‘Black and Yellow’ rapper was charged with a felony count of trafficking in marijuana, a felony count of maintaining a dwelling/vehicle/place for sale or storage of marijuana and one misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Nine other people were arrested along with Khalifa on the same charges and were still in jail at press time.
Khalifa, who was named MTV News’ “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010″ and recently signed a multi-album deal with Atlantic Records, was appearing on the campus as part of his ‘Waken Baken Tour 2010′. He boasted in a recent interview about a 10.000$-a-month weed habit and launched his own brand of rolling papers last month.
“Smoke outs Greeneville, nc tonight. Fall thru wit ur finest plant life,” – he tweeted, just hours before his arrest.
