2013 NFL schedule – tonight
The 2013 NFL schedule release is all about the order, not the opponents. We already knew the 16 opponents for all 32 NFL teams heading into Thursday.
The schedule is based on a predetermined formula that doesn’t allow for favoritism, a fact I’ve come to realize many fans and even media members don’t understand. The divisions rotate playing one division in conference and another out of conference. The teams in the NFC North, for instance, face the NFC East and AFC North this season. That’s eight games. Then you have six division games. That’s 14 games decided.
The NFL tries to help out the lesser teams with the remaining two games. First-place teams play two conference games against the other first-place team from the year before. Last-place teams get two games against fellow bottom-dwellers in conference, and so on.
Those two games are the only difference between a schedule for a team like the San Francisco 49ers and a last-place squad like the Arizona Cardinals. Two games. That’s it.
2013 NFL schedule.
A year after essentially being shunned by the networks, their only national TV game was a Thursday night game in Buffalo, the Dolphins will play three nationally-televised games in 2013, including two on Monday Night Football.
The Dolphins, who landed several high-priced free agents this offseason in Mike Wallace, Dannell Ellerbe and others, will play at the Saints and at the Bucs on Monday Night Football, and will host the Bengals on Halloween on Thursday Night Football.
The Dolphins will open the season with two straight road games, will have their home opener against the Falcons in Week 3, will have a bye in Week 6, don’t play their first divisional game until Week 7, play the Jets twice in December and finish the season with three straight road games. Their season will wrap up at home against the Jets in Week 17.
The Dolphins will also potentially have four cold-weather games: at New England in Week 8, at New York in Week 13, at Pittsburgh in Week 14 and at Buffalo in Week 16.
The 2013 NFL schedule will be released tonight at 8pm ET. We will have the updated Miami Dolphins schedule for you here as soon as it’s released.
The 2013 NFL Schedule will be released tonight, with live coverage on NFL.com and NFL Network. Of course, we will fully cover the release, as well as analysis of the schedule for the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins’ 2013 opponents, and where each game will be played, has already been determined. The majority of the schedule each year consist of six games against division rivals, four games against a division within the conference, four games against a division in the other conference, and two games against the teams that finish in the same position in their division within the conference.
For Miami – that means the team will host the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and San Diego Chargers in 2013. The Dolphins will travel to play the Bills, Patriots, Jets, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Indianapolis Colts.
The team will also play five preseason games this year, starting with the annual Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 4 against the Dallas Cowboys. The other four exhibitions will be at the Jacksonville Jaguars, at the Houston Texans, home against the Buccaneers, and home against the Saints.
