Warner Bros. announced Thursday that the 41-year-old actor-director will star as a new incarnation of the Dark Knight in a film bringing Batman and Superman together.
The studio said Affleck will star opposite 30-year-old Henry Cavill – who will reprise his role as Superman from “Man of Steel.” The movie will also feature “Man of Steel” stars Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.
The big-screen DC Comics superhero mash-up was first revealed by director Zack Snyder at last month’s Comic-Con International in San Diego.
Snyder (who will direct the sequel written by “Man of Steel” screenwriter David S. Goyer) said in a statement that Affleck will provide an “interesting counter-balance” to Cavill’s Clark Kent.

The list of unanswered questions for Sunday’s MTV VMAs is growing. Will Lady Gaga’s Jeff Koons’ references be lost amid the nudity? How many dancers can Miley Cryus get to twerk at once? How will Kanye West attempt to offend someone?
Here’s one to add to the list: Will Justin Timberlake reunite with the boy band that made him famous – ‘NSync?
Reports out of New York – namely the New York Post – are indicating that Timberlake will indeed appear with his former bandmates. If true, the sudden reunion wouldn’t be entirely out of place at the VMAs, as Timberlake is set to receive the retrospective Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady left practice early Wednesday, several minutes after suffering a left knee injury at the end of a passing play.
Two league sources said Brady suffered a sprain and the injury is not considered serious.
The injury happened during 11-on-11 work – with the Patriots practicing in full pads against the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady was looking to his right, and threw a long pass toward Aaron Dobson, when to his left, tackle Nate Solder was bull-rushed by Tampa Bay defensive end Adrian Clayborn.
Clayborn pushed Solder backward, right into Brady – who went down to the grass. Brady rocked backward and then sat there for a minute holding his left knee.

George Duke, who began his career as a jazz pianist in the 1960′s but made his name by crossing musical boundaries, died on Monday in Santa Monica, Calif. He was 67.
He had suffered heart complications after being treated for chronic lymphocytic leukemia – said his manager, Darryl Porter, who confirmed the death.
The name of the instrument with which Mr. Duke is perhaps most closely associated also describes his approach to music – synthesizer. While he remained a respected figure in the jazz world, over the years he also played keyboards with Frank Zappa and Michael Jackson, sang lead on a Top 20 single and produced pop and rhythm-and-blues hits for others. His work has been sampled by hip-hop and electronic artists, including Daft Punk.
