Daryl Hannah arrested

Actress Daryl Hannah was arrested as she protested against a proposal to build a 7 billion dollars oil pipeline outside the White House on Tuesday. Police say that she and around 100 others protested to block the proposed Keystone XL pipeline project to move oil sand petroleum from Canada to Texas refineries.
Hannah was among the 100 arrested for disobeying a “lawful order” because she refused to move from the sidewalk near the White House. She was later released on a 100 dollars fine. A spokesman for the Rainforest Action Network, Daniel Kessler, later said that she was arrested after she refused to leave while taking part in the sit-in protest.
Hannah told the Associated Press that she and the other protestors wanted to encourage independence from fossil fuel. ‘The Blade Runner’ actress is no stranger to being arrested during environmental protests. In 2006, she was arrested for protesting efforts to bulldoze an urban farm in LA. Three years later, she was also arrested for protesting a coal mining mountaintop.
As she was handcuffed, however, she was seen smiling instead of being angry as U.S. Park Police took the 50-year-old away.
Before she was arrested, she was quoted by a Washington, D.C. NBC affiliate saying that it is sometimes “necessary to sacrifice your freedom for a greater freedom.” She added: “we want to be free from the horrible death and destruction that fossil fuels cause, and have a clean energy future.”

News about Hurricane Irene

Hurricane Irene is expected to go ashore near the border of Nassau County and Queens at about 9 a.m., threatening some 80.000 homes worth more than 35 billion dollars with storm surge – forecasters and analysts said. Irene may still be a Category 1 hurricane, with winds of at least 74 miles – 119 kilometers – per hour, when its center makes landfall on its way toward Canada, said Tim Morrin, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton, New York. The storm (packing as much as 20 inches of rain) will hit near the time when tides are high across much of the region, according to published tide tables.
“With the storm surge and the amount of water it brings, the most important aspect is to just evacuate” – said Scott Little, vice president and general manager of CoreLogic Inc. Spatial Solutions in Austin, Texas. “I don’t see a lot of change between now and the time it hits. Obviously, the lower the storm surge, the lower the damage.”
Hurricane Irene made its first landfall early yesterday on North Carolina’s outer banks, flooding roads and knocking out power to more than a million homes and businesses – according to local utilities. Five storm-related deaths have been reported.
Irene weakened as it crossed land, although it remains a Category 1 storm with winds of 80 mph. The storm was about 195 miles south-southwest of New York City, and was causing water levels to rise from Maryland to New York, according to a center advisory at 2 a.m. New York time.

Glen Campbell and Alzheimer

Singer Glen Campbell is having a great time.
Make no mistake, it is tragic that Alzheimer’s disease is slowly stripping away the memories and abilities that define one of music’s greats. But day-to-day, surrounded by his family and friends, encouraged to play his guitar and sing and golf and joke, the 75-year-old Campbell is often smiling.
“I’m really not worried about anything” – Campbell said. “You know those people who say, ‘Oh, geez, I wonder what’s going to happen tomorrow?’ Tomorrow’s cool. Just don’t mess it up. It’s just wonderful. I think where I am at right now in this universe, I wouldn’t want to be anything else than what I am.”
Call it The Zen of Glen, and it has been reached through the hard work of his wife, Kim, his children and his business associates who often are as close as family. They have created a carefully engineered environment meant to shelter and encourage Campbell at every turn, whether he is at home or on the road.
The Campbell family allowed The Associated Press a glance at the ‘Country Music Hall of Fame’ member’s life during a recent visit to Biloxi, Mississippi, where Campbell played his first show last month since announcing he has Alzheimer’s, a degenerative brain disease that so far has proven incurable.
That show was a dry run in preparation for a string of dates overseas this year, and for a goodbye tour next year in support of his last studio album (“Ghost on the Canvas”) out next Tuesday.
“What’s really fun is it’s not like work now because I’ve got my kids here, and my wife here, and they’re all playing” – Campbell said.

Funeral of Pastor Zachery Tims

On August 20, 2011, the Orlando Sentinel was one of the few media outlets to get videos of members and mourners as they approached the First Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida to attend the funeral service for Dr. Zachery Tims. Tims – a charismatic preacher was found dead in a New York hotel room on August 12, 2011; the cause of death remains unknown as medical examiners are performing toxicology results. Frequently appearing on Christian television networks such as TBN and The Word Network, Tims’ congregation was approximately 8,000 but his reach was far greater. Though many across the nation hoped his wake and funeral service would stream live, Tims’ family decided to keep the services private. The church were thousands lined up hours before the 11:00 am, August 20, 2011 funeral was the site for another famous memorial service – that of Caylee Marie Anthony.
First Baptist Church in Orlando or FBC as it is known seats approximately 6,500 people and streams many of their sermons online. They frequently attract well known guests and have an impact on the community; as does New Destiny Christian Center. Though NDCC is a large church, they were concerned about the large attendance for Dr. Zachery Tims’ funeral and made arrangements with Pastor David Uth to hold the service there. The wake and tribute service that was held on August 19, 2011 took place at New Destiny Christian Center.
Interestingly, Zachery Tims preached a sermon where he stated: “After Casey Anthony’s trial is over, he is going to be the next big thing on the news.”
Some Christians are asking if he had prophesied his own death.
Not only was Zachery Tims the “next big thing in the news,” but his funeral was held at the same place where Caylee Anthony’s memorial service took place. His death took place 37 days after the Casey Anthony verdict was read.

Christine O’Donnell walks off from CNN interview

Christine O’Donnell (former Delaware GOP Senate candidate) walked off the set of CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” Wednesday when asked about her views on sexual abstinence and gay marriage.
“I’m not talking about policies. I’m not running for office” – O’Donnell said. “Ask Michele Bachmann what she thinks.”
When Morgan asked her why she was being “weird” about answering questions on her own statements, as well as issues she addresses in her new book (“Troublemaker”), O’Donnell fired back, saying she only wanted to talk about tea party principles outlined in her book.
“That’s why I agreed to come on your show. That’s what I want to talk about” – O’Donnell said. “I’m not being weird. You’re being a little rude.”
O’Donnell made national headlines in 2010 when she denied in a TV ad that she was a witch, responding to comments she made a decade earlier on a TV show saying she had “dabbled in witchcraft.”
During her Senate campaign, O’Donnell ran as a tea party darling and social conservative. She said she hopes her new book will be an inspirational tool to the grassroots conservative movement.
But when asked about issues from her book and her campaign Wednesday, O’Donnell walked away from the interview, upset that Morgan wasn’t not talking about the things she wished to address.
