Any parent getting ready for their child’s long-awaited wedding day could be excused for feeling a little nervous.
But for West Yorkshire couple Linda and Phil Tindall, their son’s big day this coming weekend is giving extra cause for a few pre-nuptial butterflies – for it is likely to bring them an audience with the Queen.
The Tindalls, of course, are getting used to mixing with the great and the good, as their son is not the average bridegroom.
As England’s long-serving rugby union captain, 32-year-old Mike Tindall would be making headlines whomever he were due to wed. As it is, his marriage on Saturday to the Queen’s eldest granddaughter, Zara Phillips, represents what will surely be the nation’s second highest-profile wedding of the year.
“We’re looking forward to it, of course” – Mrs Tindall said, speaking to the Yorkshire Post from the family home near Wakefield. “We’re very pleased they’ve finally decided to get married.”
Her son, who was born in Otley and attended Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in Wakefield, had been dating showjumper Miss Phillips for around eight years before he proposed just before Christmas at the couple’s home in Cheltenham.
Their wedding at Canongate Kirk, on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, is expected to be attended by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh and other senior members of the Royal family – including, naturally, Miss Phillips’s mother, Princess Anne.
“We haven’t met the Queen before” – said Mrs Tindall, a 63-year-old social worker. “We’ve obviously met Princess Anne on lots of occasions, and Zara’s father Mark [Captain Mark Phillips]. We’ve got to know them over a long period of time.
“We found them to be very welcoming and kind to us.”

The Minnesota Vikings have their quarterback of the future in rookie Christian Ponder, but they still have to get through the games right now before
handing the ball to him. The word from NFL.com is that Washington Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb is being sent to the Vikes and they will ‘work out a new deal’ Wednesday with McNabb’s agent, Fletcher Smith, since ‘the club has said it is unable to absorb his existing contract.’
National Football Post notes that speculation has it that ‘a seventh-round pick or a sixth at highest would get’ the actual trade done for the Minnesota.
McNabb was a bust for the Redskins last year after being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles. He appeared in 13 games, threw 15 interceptions and 14 touchdowns, and was benched partway through the season by Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan.

President Barack Obama, just as he threatened he would do, went to the American people on Monday evening to ask their help in forcing Congress to continue to fund Obama’s uncontrolled spending. Obama again promised to punish the ‘richest Americans’ who are working hard to make a profit, to grow our economy, and to create new jobs. The speech was pure predictable classic Obama.
Throughout his speech, Obama blamed George W. Bush for the increasing debt.
Throughout his speech, Obama wielded the sword of pure Class Warfare and Class Envy. He repeatedly alluded that taxing the upper 2% of income generators, who Obama claims are still ‘not paying their fair share,’ will solve our debt crisis.
Obama repeatedly attempted to isolate the upper 2% of achievers, to demonize them, and to characterize them as greedy unfair individuals. Never once did he thank them for creating most of the new jobs and paying more than half of all individual Federal income taxes. Obama did not tell us this upper 2% includes most of the small business owners, many of whom Obama’s destructive and uncertain economic policies have already severely harmed.
Obama again attacked corporate jets, insinuating private jets are to be disliked. He did not mention that the Obama Stimulus Package included incentives for the manufacturers of corporate jets – a solid affirmation that in 2009, Obama wanted more corporate jets built as a means of stimulating our economy.
Obama asked for ‘shared sacrifice,’ again pushing for more taxes on the upper 2% of income earners. Obama does not understand that in the United States of America we celebrate financial achievement. It is called achieving The American Dream. We do not single out and promise to punish those who make money as a form of Socialist entertainment to placate the masses.
Obama again threatened the old and the disabled. He said people might not get their Social Security and Veteran’s checks if the debt ceiling was not quickly raised.

Singer Amy Winehouse, who died inexpectedly in her London home Saturday found many of her career success overshadowed by her drug and alcohol addiction.
While Winehouse publicly acknowledged her drug and alcohol abuse, some addiction experts said, like many addicts, Winehouse may not have grasped the severity of her addiction.
“I think she minimized the extext to which her life was impacted by drugs and alcohol” – said Dr. David Sack, CEO of Promises Treatment Center in Los Angeles, Calif. “She was denying the extent to which it affected her.”
In one of her hit songs, ‘Rehab,’ Winehouse sings that she will not go to rehab, even though her father encouraged her to go.
“It’s not just my pride, it’s just ’til these tears have dried” – Winehouse sings.
Winehouse admitted in several interviews during the album’s release that she suffered from depression, had an eating disorder and engaged in self-injury.
“I do drink a lot. I think it’s symptomatic of my depression” – Winehouse said in an interview on the British TV show, ‘The Album Chart Show.’ “I’m manic depressive, I’m not an alcoholic, which sounds like an alcoholic in denial.”
The song ‘Rehab’ cited a real plea by her friends and father to seek treatment, she said.
“I just felt, no. Do they have a gym there? Who’s going to feed my cats?” Winehouse said. “Alcoholism is a horrible thing, but if you can’t remember the practical issues, that’s when you know you’ve got a real problem.”

Google published a doodle today that commemorates artist Alexander Calder with an interactive sculpture that sways when a person tilts an accelerometer – equipped laptop.
Calder is famous for sculptures he called mobiles – hanging weights and struts that are carefully counterbalanced so they slowly drift into new configurations. The Google doodle, published on Calder’s 113th birthday, tilts when a laptop tilts and slowly spins if a person clicks and drags on the sculpture.
The swaying feature requires not just an accelerometer-equipped laptop but also a browser that can expose that information to a Web application. In my tests on a Mac this morning, that meant Chrome but not Safari or Firefox.
Google’s doodles began as whimsical drawings that provided a bit of variation on the company’s primary – color logo. They’ve steadily increased in prominence and sophistication, though, with an annual contest for students to draw their own and ever more dynamic doodles.
Examples include a playable Pac-Man game, a musical tribute to guitarist Les Paul, and leaping dancers.
The company now has a dedicated team of Google doodle artists. They get to recognize famous moments and people – and to help Google with its mission of evangelizing the world of Web programming and the abilities of its own browser.
Marissa Mayer, a Google executive with a penchant for art, touted the doodle on Twitter and on Google+.
“The amazing Alexander Calder logo is up! It’s a simulation of an actual working mobile – also, note the shadow below the search box and buttons” – Mayer said. “Click and drag to put the mobile in motion. Also, if you pick up your laptop and rock it from side to side, the mobile swings and moves (cool use of the accelerometer in most laptops).”

Authorities say three visitors to Yosemite National Park in California are presumed dead after witnesses saw them climb over a guardrail on a popular hiking trail Tuesday afternoon and get swept over a 317-foot-high waterfall.
Kari Cobb, a spokesperson for the park, said: “So far we have seen no clues or no evidence of any of the bodies. We are presuming that all three of them are dead.”
Park rangers have been searching waters downstream from the popular Vernal Fall. Cobb said a more intensive search will be conducted closer to the falls once water levels have receded and crews can safely enter the area.
Park officials say the missing and presumed dead visitors are Ramina Badal (21) Hormiz David (22) and Ninos Yacoub (27). All three are California residents.
Authorities say the three had climbed over a safety railing and were wading in fast-moving water between granite rocks about 25 feet from the edge of the waterfall before being swept away.
Cobb said there are signs warning of danger and fast-moving water and there are guardrails in the area, but visitors often ignore them.
“It’s something that does happen and it’s completely up to the visitor to know what safety concerns are around and take responsibility for their own actions” – she said.
Before Tuesday’s incident, there had been three water-related deaths at Yosemite this year.

Following the arrest of 16 suspected members of a hacker group in the United States, authorities arrested at least five more hackers in the United Kingdom and The Netherlands.
Computer security firm Sophos reported Wednesday (Manila time) that one was arrested in the UK, while Dutch police arrested at least four more.
“The UK’s PCeU (Police Central e-Crime Unit) arrested a 16-year-old youth known as “T-Flow” in South London, on suspicion of breaching the Computer Misuse Act. The teenager is allegedly connected to hacks perpetrated by the LulzSec and Anonymous groups” – the US DOJ said.
It also said the Dutch National Police Agency arrested four individuals for alleged cybercrimes related to the case, but did not give added details.
This brought to at least 21 the number of people arrested over hacking activities in the last 24 hours.
Earlier in the United States, 14 of the arrested were linked to an Internet attack last year against PayPal, for which hacktivist group Anonymous had claimed responsibility.
Anonymous had attacked the PayPal site in retaliation for its withdrawing support for the WikiLeaks site.
“According to the San Jose indictment, in late November 2010, WikiLeaks released a large amount of classified U.S. State Department cables on its website. Citing violations of the PayPal terms of service, and in response to WikiLeaks’ release of the classified cables, PayPal suspended WikiLeaks’ accounts so that WikiLeaks could no longer receive donations via PayPal. WikiLeaks’ website declared that PayPal’s action ‘tried to economically strangle WikiLeaks’” – the US DOJ said.

By passing over Elizabeth Warren as head of a new consumer financial protection agency, President Barack Obama has freed the Harvard Law professor to possibly run against U.S. Sen. Scott Brown.
Liberals were hoping Obama would stick by Warren and appoint her to run the consumer protection agency she proposed and helped create, but now they are dreaming of the Cambridge resident as their ideal candidate to take on Brown, R-Mass.
The advocacy group BoldProgessives.org launched a petition drive Monday to draft her to run, while others said she would be a welcome addition to the race.
“I would love it if she were interested in joining the race” – Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman John Walsh said. “I would talk to her and encourage her in a heartbeat.”
Warren has not said whether she would run, and Republicans do not sound worried that she might. Brown has positive ratings from voters in polls, has raised more than $9 million for his re-election bid, and so far is being challenged by a group of relatively unknown Democrats.
“It’s pretty clear that national Democrats are unhappy with the current field, but I’m not sure a liberal Harvard professor from Oklahoma who has never run for office before is the answer” – Republican spokesman Tim Buckley said.
“The real problem for Democrats is that Scott Brown is doing a good job, people like him and he’s focused on what they care about – jobs and the economy” – Buckley said.
