Sean Young arrested at party after Oscar
Actress Sean Young was arrested after a scuffle with a security guard at the official post-Oscars party, police said Monday.
Young (52) was placed under citizen’s arrest at the Governors Ball at 9:25 p.m. Sunday after the dispute, police Cmdr. Andrew Smith said.
“She was trying to get into the party and couldn’t get in” – he said.
Young (who has starred in “Blade Runner” and “Stripes”) was booked at the Hollywood police station for investigation of misdemeanor battery. She posted 20,000 dollars bail and was released early Monday.
The actress was taken into custody quickly, said Tom Januszewski, an Associated Press business executive who witnessed the incident. He said he saw a guard subdue Young by placing his forearm on her neck and head while other guards placed her in handcuffs and led her away.
“It happened incredibly fast” – he said, adding that while the guards were forceful with Young, they didn’t use unnecessary force. “I thought it was incredibly well-handled.”
Young was wearing a ball gown but didn’t speak as she was being led away – Januszewski said.
The actress tried to crash the Vanity Fair Oscar party in 2006. She entered rehabilitation for alcohol abuse in 2008 after she was removed from the Directors Guild of America awards.
A voicemail message left early Monday for Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences publicist Tarrah Lee Curtis wasn’t immediately returned. A phone message left for Young’s agent, David Shapira, also was not immediately returned.

“Blade Runner” actress Sean Young said she wants an apology from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences after a security guard had her arrested outside an Academy Awards ball Sunday night.
“They need to make a public apology on behalf of their security guard” – Young told People magazine Monday. “I was just standing by the little line” outside the Academy’s annual Governors Ball, she said. “I wasn’t bothering anybody.”
Young (52) who had no ticket to the ball, said she was at the Hollywood & Highland Center taking pictures for her Facebook page when a guard said: ” ‘No, you have to leave.’ I started to leave and [the guard] grabbed my arm and he started pulling me. And I turned around and I was pulling my arm away – and I struck him.”
Another guard placed her under citizens’ arrest, and Los Angeles police charged her with battery, Officer Rosario Herrera told People.

Young admitted striking the official, but only after he grabbed her – apparently without provocation.
She also criticised an attorney for the Academy who she says witnessed the fracas and urged security to detain her.
“They need to make a public apology on behalf of their security guard” – a defiant Young (who starred in movies including Blade Runner and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective) told People magazine.
The 52-year-old was placed under citizen’s arrest just before 9:30pm local time Sunday after she slapped a guard who denied her entrance to the Academy’s Governors Ball for not having a ticket.
Los Angeles police officers arrived soon after and took her into custody. She was released just before 3:00am Monday after being booked on misdemeanor battery charges and posting 20,000 dollars in bail, KCBS-TV reported.
Giving her version of events to the media later Monday, Young insisted the Academy was in the wrong.
She said she was at the party’s entrance simply to take pictures with guests for her Facebook page.
“They said: ‘No, you have to leave,’” Young told People. “I started to leave and (the guard) grabbed my arm and he started pulling me. And I turned around and I was pulling my arm away – and I struck him.”
Young said security footage of the incident would exonerate her.
“I was well-behaved” – she said in a further interview with X17 Online. “It was fine … and the surveillance tape will bear that out. … It’s atrocious behavior on the Academy’s part.”
In a statement to People, the Academy denied initiating legal proceedings against Young.
“There was an incident with Ms. Young outside the Academy’s Governors Ball” – the statement said. “It was not the Academy who pressed charges.”
In the hours before her arrest, Young was seen taking pictures with the likes of Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock.
