The Geminid Metor Shower are caused by the object 3200 Phaethon, an asteroid with an extraordinary orbit that brings it closer to the Sun. Geminids are slow moving and can be seen in December.
Geminid Meteor Shower 2010 is happening now. One of the maximum nights of the showers is on December 12. But it might be even better on Monday, December 13. The showers of meteorites usually produces more than 100 meteors flashing through the night sky every hour.
The Astronomers consider it as one of the best meteor shower of the year. The peak of the annual Geminid Meteor Shower will occur on Tuesday between midnight and sunrise. Millions of meteors occur in the Earth’s atmosphere every day.

Overland Park, Kan. The Shawnee Mission School Board will have another meeting about closing some of its schools to save money Monday night. The school district recommended possibly closing Bonjour Elementary, Antioch Middle School and Mission Valley Middle School.
Parents should expect to hear recommendations from the superintendent about what will be done. The school board will also take a closer look at boundary changes that would move more students into high schools with lower enrollment to balance things out.
A group of parents from the Shawnee Mission School District filed a lawsuit against the state of Kansas over school funding. They want permission to raise what’s called the ‘local option budget’ through local taxes to help pay for schools.
Right now the state puts a cap on the amount a district can raise that way. Parents hope a win in court will ultimately help them save schools from closing.

Miley Cyrus celebrated her 18th birthday by experimenting with a bong and catching a case of the giggles. But sources say she was not smoking marijuana.
The video was shot during a party at Miley’s L.A. area home 5 days after her 18th birthday.
According to a source connected with Miley … the smoke filling the bong is a natural herb called salvia which has psychedelic qualities. Possession of salvia is legal in California.
As for the video … the source tells us it was shot by one of Miley’s friends. And the theory is someone stole or copied the video from that friend’s camera.

Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in an Oslo ceremony derided by Beijing as a farce.
Mr Liu has dedicated the prize from his prison cell to the ‘lost souls’ of the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown.
“We can to a certain degree say that China, with its 1,3 billion people is carrying mankind’s fate on its shoulders” – Norwegian Nobel committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland said in a speech before 1.000 guests in the richly decorated City Hall.
“If the country proves capable of developing a social market economy with full civil rights, this will have a huge favourable impact on the world. If not, there is a danger of social and economic crises arising in the country, with negative consequences for us all.”
The absence of the laureate, sentenced last year to 11 years jail for subversion, was symbolised at the ceremony by an empty chair and a large portrait.
Mr Jagland placed the prestigious award on the empty chair, explaining it was impossible to hand it to Mr Liu or any of his close family members, who were prevented from travelling to Oslo for the ceremony.

The Howard Stern contract has been renewed. Howard Stern has announced, in his own lengthy pandering fashion, that he has signed a contract for five more years of spewing garbage on Syrius XM. If you listen on a Blackberry or iPhone, don’t worry… Those apps are covered in his contract as well. I gather that was important to him. He also said that ‘initially’ he will be broadcasting in his usual 6-10 a.m. time slot, which leads me to wonder if in the future he will pollute the airwaves later in the day? Perhaps in the evening, in a primetime slot?
I’m sure I’ll get a lot of hate mail about my feelings toward Howard Stern, but really the guy nauseates me. He’s worse than Rush Limbaugh, as he seems to revel in the smuttiest things he can find. Such as his interview yesterday with aging rock groupie Sweet Connie Hamzy. That woman did not need any air time. She has a book of her lies that people can read if they want. Although it’s possible that neither Stern nor his listeners are capable of reading a book all the way through.

Today marks the 30th anniversary of John Lennon’s murder. He was gunned down by Mark Chapman outside his apartment in Central Park. New York with Yoko Ono by his side.
Chapman is still in jail and despite six requests for parole he is still incarcerated.
John Lennon’s death for those of my generation I think was of enormous significance as it brought home to us all how fragile life is. This man who was responsible for so much of our musical influences was so cruelly taken from us and it took many of us a long time to come to terms with his passing.
There had been other leaders like JFK and Martin Luther King who had also been murdered but I don’t think we were old enough to understand the significance of those losses.
His songwriting is something we will always have but I must admit that a world without John Lennon is not a better place.
That other great talent Leonard Cohen has just toured Australia. And I would love to sit in an audience one more time to hear John Lennon perform.

Sunday night was stressful for college football fans as they waited to see where their favorite teams would play this upcoming bowl season. ESPN finally revealed all of the match ups late Sunday for the 2010 bowl games and the BCS bowl games at the start of 2011.
The main concern for many fans was which two teams would be playing in the national championship game. That question was answered on Saturday when both Oregon and Auburn survived their last tests of the year. The Tigers and Ducks will meet on January 10th – with the winner becoming the new national champion.
From there, it was a matter of matching up the most compelling games that the remaining bowls could find. For the Rose Bowl – that meant bringing Wisconsin and TCU. The Orange Bowl secured Virginia Tech and Stanford, while the Fiesta Bowl picked Oklahoma, but was stuck with Connecticut. One of the more intriguing match ups will come in the Sun Bowl. Miami and Notre Dame have built a long rivalry through the eighties and the early nineties. The teams stopped playing each other when the rivalry grew too heated. But they have accepted bids to face each other in the Sun Bowl.

A lot has happened to the UCLA football team in the last year. But when it came down to its annual rivalry game with USC, it seems like nothing has changed.
Once again the Bruins were within striking distance of the chinks in the Trojans’ armor. But in the moments that counted, they failed to make the blow.
UCLA (4-8, 2-7 Pac-10) failed to take back the Victory Bell Saturday at the Rose Bowl, losing 28-14 to USC (8-5, 5-4), the Bruins’ fourth-straight loss and their 11th of the last 12 contests against their foes from across town.
UCLA only trailed 14-7 at halftime but failed to score in the second half despite two interceptions by USC quarterback Matt Barkley.
Instead – the Trojans tacked on two more touchdowns to excite their fans who shared a good portion of the seats in the famous Pasadena stadium.
The Bruins’ own sophomore quarterback Richard Brehaut wasn’t much better, participating in three turnovers and completing just 20 of 35 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown.
Redshirt sophomore running back Johnathan Franklin provided UCLA’s first score: a 59-yard touchdown in the first half. Brehaut threw a 10-yard touchdown to redshirt sophomore tight end Joseph Fauria in the game’s final seconds.

The Red Sox and Padres have apparently agreed on a trade for Adrian Gonzalez. The All-Star first
baseman is either already Boston or on the way according to Nick Cafardo and other reports.
The next step in the process would be for Gonzalez to have a physical and agree on a contract extension.
Neither of those steps are necessarily guaranteed, Gonzalez recently had surgery on his right, non-throwing, shoulder that will reportedly keep him out early in spring training. The Red Sox have to be assured that the injury is not more serious than that. The team also would need Gonzalez signed long term before consummating the deal.
It is unclear who the Red Sox are giving up, and the package appears to be built around RHP Casey Kelly and 1B Anthony Rizzo.

December 2nd is the world’s Cartoon Day. It seems that many people who are engaged on social
networking sites are changing their profile pictures to showcase their favorite cartoon shows from the 90′s. With many people joining in on this unique band wagon, there may be speculation as to which cartoons were popular in the 90′s.
For many young adults who grew up in this time frame, they know that shows such as “Rugrats”, “Hey Arnold!”, “Doug”, “The Animaniacs”, and “Rocko’s Modern Life” are all examples of popular 90′s television cartoons.
With so many people incorporating their favorite kiddish cartoons into their social networking experiences, it just makes sense that images and cartoon sites are being flooded for good media of 90′s shows. Many of these people may even leave these particular pictures up long after Cartoon Day is over in order to commemorate their favorite childhood television shows for a little longer than just a day.
